Anthony W. Holmes has been advising senior leaders on the Asia-Pacific for nearly two decades. Mr. Holmes currently provides international relations expertise to the commander, U.S. Special Operations Command, while also serving as a senior non-resident fellow at the Project 2049 Institute. He has written for premier outlets covering Asia issues, including Nikkei Asia, 19fortyfive, the Diplomat, and The Hill. In March 2021, Chosun Ilbo, Korea’s largest newspaper, ran a 14 page profile on Mr. Holmes as part of its series on global thought leaders.
From 2017-2021, Mr. Holmes was the Special Advisor for North Korea, Senior Advisor for Korea Policy, and Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs. He was one of only two officials representing the Department of Defense at the inaugural U.S.-North Korea Summit in Singapore in 2018. Mr. Holmes was an intelligence officer and strategic analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2008-2017.
Mr. Holmes is a recipient of both the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service and the Director of National Intelligence Medal for Intelligence Integration. He has a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies with a Certification in Joint and Maritime Operational Planning from the U.S. Naval War College, a Masters in Japanese History from the University of Pittsburgh.
